A certificate is a document issued by Apple in respect to your Certificate Signing Request (CSR), that contains information about you and your system. After the verification, a certificate or .p12 file is generated by Apple for you to use. It is installed in the keychain app of the system. It is composed of 2 things:

  • certificate (.cer) that contains your public key.
  • Your private key.
