@cristobal QTP (Quick Test Professional) is a commercial automated functional testing tool by HP, while Selenium is an open source tool used for automating web applications for testing purposes.

QTP supports testing of multiple technologies such as Windows objects, Java, .Net, SAP, Siebel, Web objects, etc. But Selenium is only used for web-based applications.

QTP is not OS independent, but Selenium is OS independent.

QTP requires a license but Selenium is free.

QTP requires expensive resources to set up the testing environment whereas Selenium requires much less expensive resources since it has an open source architecture.
